Enviropacific has been engaged as Principal Contractor to remediate lead dust from more than 40 properties across Port Pirie, South Australia.
For more than 130 years, one of the world’s largest primary lead smelters has operated within the region, with airborne lead-contaminated dust transported via wind and deposited on houses and properties.
The Targeted Lead Abatement Program is an important component of the solutions being delivered by a multiagency Government Task Force. Our scope of works aims to minimise dust entry into homes where children under five years-old live, noting the impacts of lead within the blood stream are more severe for children and infants.
We are working with local business to deliver the full package of works including sealing potential dust
ingress points on houses, covering exposed soil surfaces with alternative materials, removing and disposing of contaminated soil, improving stormwater drainage. We have achieved close to 70% local spend across the project, supporting a significant investment in the community affected by the works.
