The two existing storm water culverts under Astrolabe Park that direct storm water into Botany Wetlands were dilapidated and in need of replacement. Enviropacific was appointed the principal contractor to design and construct a leading wetland solution.
The project remedial objectives were to prevent adjoining landfill leachate release, the drainage works mitigated future flood risk, and we rehabilitated the surrounding environments including the park and wetland, improving local amenity.
The drainage system included two large underground gross pollutant traps (GPT) and over 900 lineal metres of twin 2.1m diameter pipeline. The existing culverts were grout filled and the wetland reconstruction included a new sediment basin, constructed on water using specialist equipment.
The new park facilities provide a renewed recreation area close to Sydney’s CBD.
