Our People – Mirela Halilovic

In Our People segment, we are shining the light on our National HSEQ Manager!

Mirela Halilovic, our National HSEQ Manager, believes education empowers people and is passionate about creating an inclusive platform for women in engineering.

She talks about her interesting and varied roles, what she loves about SOLVE, and how she ensures safety is at the forefront of everything we do here at Enviropacific!

You have had an interesting career, tried various roles, who or what inspired you to take up your current profession?

I have always enjoyed science and technology which lead me to take up engineering. I have been extremely fortunate to have been involved in various manufacturing organisations over the years providing me with a wealth of experience and knowledge.

Early on in my career, I learnt the importance of not only producing products for the client/customer, but also ensuring everyone involved was safe and without harming the environment. This is where my passion for HSEQ began to evolve.

What attracted you to Enviropacific SOLVE?

I’m proud to be part of a business that provides solutions to complex waste streams.

SOLVE as a business has strong environmental ethics and an evolving safety performance that attracted me to peruse my next career chapter with Enviropacific. Besides, it felt like a natural progression as in my previous roles I was involved in identifying and providing solutions for waste streams generated by manufacturing companies and the challenges that this posed to the businesses.

Tell us a bit more about your current role.

I absolutely enjoy leading the Enviropacific HSEQ Management Systems and ensuring that safety is at the forefront of everything we do!

In my current role as the National HSEQ Manager, I am based at our SOLVE office in Altona which allows me to remain part of a strong team that run a 24/6 processing plant without compromising on the commitment to safety.

I have the opportunity to travel and visit a variety of our projects/sites and it is rewarding to see the knowledge, skills and experience of our teams managing complex projects.

What do you enjoy most about working at SOLVE?

I enjoy being able to work within a team delivering effective, sustainable projects.

Working at SOLVE has allowed me to provide leadership and technical support to the team and we work collaboratively on delivering the HSEQ Management System requirements.

What has helped shaped the person you are today?

The diversity of roles in my career from – Technical Officer, Improvement Engineer, Environmental Officer, Auditor, EHS Leader in various manufacturing/process organisations – both at a national and global level has given me the opportunity to meet and work with exceptional leaders and colleagues providing me a wealth of knowledge and experience.

I particularly enjoy supporting, promoting and encouraging women in manufacturing and engineering. This is important to me, and I volunteer for The Women in Manufacturing Network (WIMN), I have also facilitated events for the ANZ Women’s Inclusion Network – Employee Resource Group in order to achieve greater equality though creating an inclusive platform for women in manufacturing and engineering.

Education is very important to me, and my core values are learning and teaching – I believe these values empower us and the next generation to lead.
