Mackay Fuel Terminal Administration Buildings

Project Type: Fuel Depot
Our team was engaged to design the site’s control building, refuelling gantry structure, staff and public parking structures, and staff recreational barbeque area. The result was an intimate collection of very compact building footprints. This unassuming, yet highly functional and specialised facility, is one that would not look far out of place in a typical Queensland suburban street, let alone in this exposed industrial address.
While the control building layout is compressed, it maximises function with pleasant working spaces featuring raked ceilings and a mix of glazed and shading elements. Internal finishes are strategically cost conscious and yet vibrant, with the client’s corporate colours and vinyl cut graphics featured throughout.
Set within the labyrinth of massive tanks, storage sheds and vast piping networks, the control building, gantry and surrounding recreational and car parking structures provide essential visual relief within this harsh industrial context. The design promotes human scale and function, with an external form and palette that reflects the local coastal environment.
