Chinderah Northbound Highway Service Centre
Project Lead: Jonathan Croft
Design Lead: Phillip Shore & Wayne Lamb
Project Type: Highway Service Centre
Showcasing Australia’s leading highway service centre designer, Cadway Projects, Chinderah Northbound establishes its foundations based from understanding customer’s needs & expectations. This was achieved by creating a social destination which provides quiet and peaceful spaces inside and out for customers to relax and enjoy. Drawing on the local northern rivers landscape & sub-tropical hinterland, the architectural expression balances naturally inspired forms, local landscape & native flora with complex programmatic & functional requirements of high-volume vehicle & pedestrian movement within these dynamic retail & hospitality precincts.
With an organic palette of colours & finishes, the warm feel of this design successfully opposes the traditional harsh and cold language of yesterday’s service stations & truck stops. Exterior features include outdoor dining and a children’s play area naturally shaded by the building from. Large roofed overhangs & raised planters of local plant species provides reference to the Australian vernacular and a secure feeling while enjoying these fun and inviting spaces.
The project being a D&C model was achieved with a relationship between builder and Cadway to deliver a project to the client taking into account budget and expectation.
